Reincarnation and retribution

Do you believe in reincarnation and retribution? I guess I do believe in it. That is why I think that I may not have been a very good person in my previous life and now I’m working hard for a better life in my next.

Technology

In continuation to the anime that I have talk about earlier - Full Metal Alchemist. The stories talk about certain issues which I think that can be applied to the society. For example in the anime, they actually talk about using “sorcery” to improve human lives (supposedly). However, there comes the question whether the use of sorcery improves lives or it actually degrades/ destroys life.

When I ponder about it, I feel that in the anime, “sorcery” is analogous to technology in our life. So is technology improving our life? Or is it destroying it? I believe many people out there will think that technology improves our lives. I myself believe to a certain degree also. But I feel that with the advance in technology, human greed and desires also increases. And I feel that the human world has become so much complicated.

I will pose 2 questions to end with.

1) When/how will the advancement of technology be sufficient?
2) Since the technology is so “advance” now, do you still have any desires?

Same price exchange theory

I recently watched an anime – Full Metal Alchemist. In it, they have a same price exchange theory which says that if you want something, you will have to pay the same price for it.

It began to make me wonder about some things. Does this “theory” apply in life? If the theory is really true, I guess I would have been one of the top scholars by now. Unfortunately, this theory doesn’t really seem to apply in my studies and in order for the theory to become true, I have decided to cut down on my studying time to correspond to my grades. Ha-ha. Charity

Here comes the --- charity show again. They have been holding it more and more frequent now. I felt as though they have just run it a couple months ago.

The economy is bad and everybody has been tightening their “belts”. Many people are hard up for money. Singaporeans are not stingy people. If so, it will have to be the culture that shapes us to be so. Most Singaporeans are very compassionate and generous to the less well off. But I hope organizations are not taking advantage of it. (I’m not implying anything here -_- )

The donation cost increase from $2 to $3 to $5 and now to $5.40 ($5 donation, $0.21 phone companies’ administrative fees, $0.19 GST???). What I’m puzzled about is that since this is a charity, why do phone companies want to charge people for it? Can’t they treat it as donation as well? Or do they want to profit from it? And what’s the matter about GST? Do they mean that now they even have to charge service charge on donations?

Maybe next time when I see a “beggar”, instead of $2, I will now need to give $2.40 (inclusive of GST). (-_-)|||

Introduction

I have decided to name my blog as the book of shadows not because I’m going to talk about sorceries and magic. In my blog, I’m going to talk about some questions that I ponder every now and then whether it’s about life, society or humans etc. Well, it probably means that I have (~ehem~) grown up.

I name it book of shadows as I feel that the issues that I’m going to write are like shadows which always exist but in the dark. Nobody may really notice them or maybe even doesn’t want to take notice of them.

In my blog, it’s usually very short as I’m not really very good with words. I would just like to voice out what I feel. My blogs will usually not be open ended as there are many things which have no answers yet maybe not even in the future. There is no right or wrong answers. I hope that my blogs allows people to take note of some things which they have never know existed.

P/s: The things that I write are just personal opinions. They are neither rules nor definite truths. I'm not a pessimist and in fact I’m actually a optimistic person. Let’s just say that I think a lot. Haha
